SUNDERLAND’s leading furniture store is evoking the real spirit of the season – by supporting other independent businesses in a giant Christmas giveaway.

Mandy Brown of Harrison and Brown wanted to highlight the importance of shopping local and also how city centre traders should work together.

With that in mind she has bought vouchers, products and experiences from a dozen different outlets which she is now giving away via her social media pages.

“The idea was to show that there is no conflict of interest and we can all support each other,” said Mandy.

“I didn’t want businesses to give us stuff for free so I’ve bought the prizes – although some people did give me some discount – but it’s just something I wanted to do.

“I hope sharing the competition on social media will highlight all of the traders taking part and encourage people to shop local.”

Prizes include afternoon tea for two at Crumb on In tea rooms, a Christmas bouquet from Flowers by Jennifer, a sheepskin rug from Carpets, Curtains and Karndean, a cut and blow dry at Estrella Hair and Beauty plus a facial and massage at Sunderland Massage Centre.

The vouchers up for grabs include £30 to be spent at Tommy Blades and £50 vouchers for Bou Chic, Ibbitsons, Spot White, Master Debonair and New City Cobbler.

Mandy is also donating her own prize – £100 voucher to be spent at Harrison and Brown along with a light up tree.

“Everyone has been really supportive and it’s so important that the independent businesses work together,” she said.

“It’s what Christmas is really all about.”
