Sunderland’s the Bridges shopping centre is hoping to boost shoppers’ Christmas spirits – with the news of three new openings.

With non-essential retail all set to re-open, there are even more reasons to support local retailers – although in a socially distanced way – with the return of two seasonal favourites and a brand new outlet.

The World of Christmas has taken over a large unit near to the entrance of Debenhams for its annual visit to the centre, offering a wide range of ornaments, baubles, cards, decorations and gift wrapping and packaging.

The centre is once again hosting is the popular Calendar Club which has a large stand in one of the malls, selling calendars featuring everything from singers to reality tv stars to cute pets and cartoon characters.

The newest addition to the Bridges is Cake Box which is already proving a huge hit, with its range of egg-free celebration cakes, cupcakes and cake slices, many of which can be personalised.

Karen Eve, Centre Director at the Bridges, believes the new outlets will be very popular in the countdown to Christmas.

“It’s fantastic to be able to welcome back two of the retailers which are such an important part of Christmas at the Bridges,” she said.

“And we’re also delighted that Cake Box has chosen to add Sunderland to their growing list of outlets, which is already becoming massively popular with our shoppers.

“We are thrilled to be able to welcome people back to do their Christmas shopping in person and to enjoy the extended hours we are offering every single day.

“We are open until 8pm on Thursdays and until 7pm every night except Sunday.

“We want everyone to know there is plenty of time to come and shop in a safe and socially distanced way.”
