A popular event full of traditional Easter fun is set to return to Sunderland.

Penshaw Bowl – a free, family event – will be taking place on Good Friday, 30th March, at Herrington Country Park.

The centrepiece of the day will be a traditional egg rolling contest, which will be opened by the Mayor of Sunderland, Cllr Doris MacKnight.

Cllr MacKnight said, “Over the years, children all over the city have looked forward to this fantastic, free, family event, which brings people together to celebrate a very special time of year.”

“I look forward to welcoming children and their families from all over the city to enjoy a day that promises to be jam-packed with Easter fun.”

The egg-rolling event, which is open to children aged 11 and under, will run from 12.00 to 4.00 pm.

Thanks to sponsors Sainsburys, there will be a range of chocolate prizes, and each child who takes part will receive a small chocolate egg treat.

In addition to the egg rolling, the Active Sunderland team and their partners will be encouraging visitors to get involved in a variety of healthy activities, including cricket, football, mini-golf and athletics.

There will also be food and refreshment stalls, a craft market, storytelling sessions, walkabout characters, an Easter trail and circus skills.

In order to reduce waiting times on the day, families are asked to register any children who would like to take part in the egg rolling by going to www.seeitdoitsunderland.co.uk/penshaw-bowl.

Visitors are asked to bring along their pre-decorated egg, marked with the child’s age and name, and to arrive 15 minutes before their pre-designated time slot.
