Sunderland Hosts Free Event to Help Businesses Improve Website Accessibility
North East In Person Event

Sunderland is set to host a hands-on accessibility event this November, bringing together three local organisations to help businesses make their websites more inclusive for everyone.

Recite Me, Phonetic Digital, and Sunderland City Council are joining forces to organise the session, which will take place on 24 November at Sunderland City Hall.

The timing couldn’t be more important. With the Equality Act, the European Accessibility Act (EAA), and WCAG standards putting inclusion at the heart of digital services, businesses that overlook accessibility risk losing customers, talent, and reputation. At the same time, accessible websites can open doors to new audiences and provide a smoother, more welcoming experience for all users.

Attendees will hear from experts who will share practical advice, real-world case studies, and step-by-step guidance to make websites more inclusive for everyone, from improving accessibility for people with disabilities and older users to meeting evolving legal standards and building internal support for digital inclusion.

“Digital accessibility isn’t just a legal requirement – it’s an opportunity for every business to serve all customers better,” says Ross Linnett, CEO of Recite Me.

“Working alongside Phonetic Digital and Sunderland City Council to deliver this event shows what local collaboration can achieve in making inclusion a reality.”

This event is a chance for local businesses to come together, share ideas, and tackle digital accessibility challenges as a community. Anyone in Sunderland and the surrounding area can join to pick up practical tips, hear from experts, and start making their websites more inclusive for everyone.
