Magical Children’s show to visit North East Theatres this Summer

Darlington based dance company The D Project are bringing their magical new children’s show HEDGE to theatres across the North East this Summer.

HEDGE welcomes children into a familiar world that is ever changing, telling the story of a hedgehog who wakes up from hibernation and must learn to be brave in the face of uncertainty as they navigate the world around them.

Playful, fresh and engaging, the show combines the magic of dance with beautiful costumes, innovative props and puppetry to create an enchanting performance space for little ones to enjoy.

Preservation of the environment is deeply rooted in both the story and the production itself with handmade props and puppets created from recycled materials by local illustrator and designer Georgia Hill. The costumes are the handiwork of creator Sam Fisher.

Supported by Dance City, the show which was first scheduled to premiere during the COVID-19 pandemic, has been the passion project of the company’s Artistic Director Debbie Harbin who has dedicated her career to developing the dance ecology in the North East as a teacher, choreographer and a dance artist.

“The D Project’s vision for HEDGE is not only about dance, it’s about development. We aim to create an interactive learning platform for young people. We’re finding ways to ignite and inspire young people through storytelling, movement and puppetry! It might just spark a life-long engagement in dance.”

HEDGE will be touring to Dance City, Queens Hall Hexham, The Maltings Berwick, Alnwick Playhouse, The Witham, Arts Centre Washington, The Hullaballoo in Darlington and Hartlepool Town Hall between 11 June and 3 July. Ticket bookable through venues or visit www.thedproject.co.uk
